Sometimes I need to read some inspiring quotes to feel calm and motivated. The other moment I like to talk with other creatives about our freelance jobs or choose to read good books to get inspired. Fashion photographer is a job that is depending on the seasons, something you have 5 (paid) shoots in one week, the other moments you have 5 shoots in two or three moths. Luckily I can work on this blog during that periode and organize workshops and do portrait shoots. Today I would like to share my routine how I stay inspired and motivated along the way!
READING INSPIRING QUOTES
These quotes can help me to achieve my goals.
Talk with other creatives / freelancers
Other things that help me a lot are talking with other creatives because they know how it is be a freelancer. We can help each other in different ways. And to share another true quote: creative minds inspire others!
3-4 Times a week I go to the Gym to follow fitness classes like Bodypump, Core Training, BBB and HIT. I already do this for many years and it works amazing for me to clear my mind and focus on something else!
Reading and collecting inspiring books is something I love! I made a list below of some Dutch and English books where I learned from. Please let me know if you have some book tips for me!
- #GIRLBOSS – Sophia Amoruso
- Powervrouwen – Julia Pimsleur
- On Top – Anna Nooshin
- Masterclass Ondernemen – Annic van Wonderen
- De Grit Factor – Angela Duckworth
- Love x Style x Life – Garance Dore
- Talk Like Ted – Carmine Gallo
- It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want To Be – Paul Arden
visiting a museum / exhibitions
An exhibition like ‘A Different Vision On Fashion Photography’ by Peter Lindberg at De Kunsthal in Rotterdam (till Februari 12th) is the perfect example of a moment to feel inspired by his amazing story and photos!
I’m a magazine addict since I was a teenager. Every month I’m reading the Vogue, Elle, Glamour and Harper’s Bazaar and even now and then I go the bookstore to buy international magazines like: Love Magazine, I-D, Lone Wolf, Mirage, Lula, Hunger, W, Suitcase, Dansk and so much more! Especially the fashion and beauty editorials are the most important to me. It’s a kind of research because it’s important to know what people (photographers, stylits) booming are in the business right now, what models do we see, what are the latest trends and what are the newest collections for this season. A research that can become very addicted!
It’s no surprise that I love traveling. This helps me a lot to think about new concepts for my business or for my shoots. Every time when I come back, I have a notebook (or the notes in my phone) full with new ideas to work on!
What are your tips and tricks to stay inspired?
