California Road Trip Part III – Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon, Joshua Tree, Laguna Beach
The final part of our road trip! We woke up in Barstow, a small town somewhere close to the desert at Route 66. On our way to Las Vegas we saw a sign at the road to Calico Ghost Town and decided to make a stop. Calico is a ghost town and former mining town in San Bernardino County, They’ve found a lot of silver here. It was very cold so we decided to get back in the car and continue to Vegas. We didn’t expect much of Vegas so we preferred to spend more time in the Red Rock Canyon, a beautiful National Park very very close Las Vegas. We stayed in the Red Rock Hotel, Casino & Spa **** and we had an amazing room and the hotel was huge! We walked around and after one hour we discovered there was even a cinema with 16 theaters, we watched the new movie from James Bond, Spectre. The next day it was Thanksgiving Day so it was quite busy in the Red Rock Canyon, but it was big enough to find some quiet places. The nature was beautiful and the red rocks where very special to see! Again it was very cold and the weather changed from sunny to very cloudy. After sunset we drove to The Strip in Las Vegas. Wow! All the lights and huge and crazy buildings… It was more impressing and more fun then we expected. We had just a few hours to walk around in the shopping centers, hotels, casino’s and busy streets. Around midnight we arrived in Barstow again and the next morning, on Black Friday we went to Joshua Tree National Park. I was here a few weeks ago when the weather was much better for a photo shoot, click here to see the post. Joshua Tree Park is ‘close’ to LA (3 hours) and I really recommend to visit this park if you like to see some wonderful nature during your city trip. Before sunset we discovered a viewpoint where you can see the Coachella Valley, the San Andreas Fault and some people said you could even see Mexico. Not bad! :) At the end of the day we drove back and woke up in Anaheim. I felt sick since a couple of days (cold weather, long intensive days, tired) but I really had to see Orange County, especially Laguna Beach! And I’m happy we did, it was so good to be back at the coast and see the beach again! The weather was much better than the days before in the cold dessert. The final 1,5 days we spend in LA and Pasadena. On our last evening we had nice diner with Jessica (the lovely girl where I shared the appartement with during my stay) and her fiancé. After 2,5 months it was time to go back home and I had the best time ever! It was a California dream coming true!
