        Bokeh Control Lens in London

I’ve spent the days before Christmas in London together with my boyfriend and this golden lens. It’s the Lomography Petzval 58mm Bokeh Control Art Lens and it is available with different camera mounts. I had the Canon EF mount so I used it on my Canon EOS 6D full frame camera and I was very impressed by the results!

“After Joseph Petzval introduced his iconic lens in 1840, portrait photography flourished. Now, 175 years later, it’s your turn to explore these first footsteps of photography with a handcrafted lens combining historical design and modern, yet original, Russian optics.”

The lens has an aperture system with interchangeable plates as you can see in this image (the brown ring/plate). With these plates you decide the aperture, I used the f/1.4 and f/2.8 for the most of my images because it was quite cloudy in London. The Bokeh Control Ring is unique in this lens and let you adjust the strength of the swirly bokeh effect from 1 to 7.

You have to adjust the focus with the special knob as you can see at this image. Other people told me it was hard to focus, but after a few shots it was easy create sharp photos. I really like the results of this art lens but the only dislike for me was that it was hard to shoot in portrait mode.. The aperture plate fell out of the lens so I had to hold it with one finger while focusing with the other fingers so that takes some practice with this heavy lens :)

Boasting a solid satin-finished brass body, the New Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Art Lens is great for all different types of photography. I captured the streets of London and of course I made some portraits of Eric because I think this lens is perfect for portrait photography!
