Based in The Netherlands.

Fashion & portrait photographer.
Photography studio in Rotterdam.

This blog started in January 2014 as an extension to my portfolio website liselottefleur.com, because that website is just made to showcase my photography work. Now I see this as my personal blog about fashion photography where I share my stories and behind the scenes pictures! Besides this, I’ll regularly share photography tips and answer photography related question of my readers. In the near future you can find here photo series and interviews with inspiring models and other people within the fashion photography industry. I love to work in my own creative workspace and photography studio in Rotterdam.

“The Fashion Camera is a fashion photography blog by Liselotte Fleur based out of the Netherlands. When you think of fashion, you might be drawn to beautiful models and exotic locations. While you will indeed catch a glimpse of this and Liselotte’s own enchanting sense of style, you will also be treated to a blog that is packed full of practical information and advice to benefit any photographer. Take a look at her work behind the scenes, her travel diary, and technical tips. Learn how to find clients, prepare shoots, achieve your brand, and much more. Her stunning array of photographs are a reminder that the world of glamour is a lot of hard work.” – from the blog post ‘9 Top Photography Bloggers You Should Know About’ at blog.clearbags.com.

To pursue my love for photography, I chose to study photography at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam where I graduated in 2013 and the Accademia di Belli Arti di Brera in Milan. Besides my stay in Milan, I also expand my professional horizon on field trips for a couple of months to Los Angeles (click here to see all my posts about L.A.) and smaller trips to Paris and Rome for collaborations with model agencies and designers. Photography gives me the opportunity to tell my own stories on beautiful locations with the influence of fashion. I enjoy collaborating and completing ideas, but I also love the journey. Learning, meeting new people and getting creatively and technically better with each photo shoot. I’m always searching for little surprises when I’m behind the camera. I can find these in my fascination for perfection, unexpected moments and working with daylight. I’m also inspired by the beauty of people, and what I define as beautiful in a person is what makes them unique.

How It All Started

It all started at the age of 15. I already knew that I was interested in fashion and portraits so I made many pictures with my sister and friends acting as my models. In that time I experimented a lot and one year later I decided to follow a course at an Art Academy to learn more about the creative process. At the age of 17 I was accepted at the Art Academy in Rotterdam. I was really inspired by how I could use conceptual art into fashion photography, in such a way that I also could use my own imagination. In fashion photography it’s important to collaborate with stylist, make-up artists and model agencies. So I did, and it is great to work with those talented people in this industry.

At the start of my third year, I decided to participate in an exchange program, so I studied for six month at the Art Academy in Milan, Italy. I could not resist to arrange a lot of photo shoots in my spare time. It was great to meet all these new international and creative people. During this period I learned a lot about myself and my photography.

During the graduation period I went to Paris and Milan to work on beautiful locations. For me it’s important to expand my workflow and I’m constantly searching for new sources of inspiration. Besides that, I set new goals for myself in order to expand my knowledge. My network is very important so I work with many different teams and model agencies all the time.
Right now, I’m doing editorial work, lookbooks, and testshoots with model agencies, but I still do a lot of personal work. Ideally, I’d like to focus on high-end fashion editorials and fashion clients all over the globe.

Olympus PEN Ambassador
I love to bring a camera to everywhere I go, but because my DSLR camera (that I use for photo shoots and assignments) is too big and too heavy to carry on Holidays or day trips, I am a fan of the PEN camera. The Olympus PEN E-PL7 and the Olympus OMD E-M1 Mark II are my favorite everyday camera’s because it’s compact and lightweight. That makes it ideal to put the camera in my bag to take some snapshots along the way! Smartphones and compact camera’s are small too, but the PEN has got all the features of a DSLR camera. It’s the perfect camera to capture good photos for my blog and social media accounts like Instagram and Facebook. I can switch the lenses so I am able to make the perfect shot at every occasion. The camera’s slim silhouette, retro body and hand grip makes it a fashion accessory as well!
