Stockholm Travel Diary – Part I

On April 9th I went to Stokholm for a few days together with my sister and mother. We had a lovely city trip in this beautiful city, but we had bad luck with the weather. The days before our arrival it was around 15 degrees and during our stay it was around 0 to 5 degrees with zero sunshine. As you can see in the photos the sky was completely grey, but actually I kinda like these moody images. I captured our trip with the Olympus OMD EM1 Mark II + Olympus 14-40mm f/2.8 PRO lens + Olympus 25mm f/1.2 PRO lens and I was very impressed by the quality! Normally I travel with my smaller Olympus PEN camera, so it was great to take my travel photos to the next level! (Although this means walking around all day with a little more heavy camera + lenses).

Our hotel (Queens Hotel) was located in Norrmalm at the famous shopping street Drottninggatan and the location was perfect. We were able to walk to the other parts of the city and it was just a few minutes away from Central Station (to take the train to the aiport) so no taxi or public transport needed.

        Day one

The first day went to the oldest part of the city, called Gamla Stan. It was Monday morning, so it was really quiet on the streets. We enjoyed the beautiful architecture, cappuccino’s and cinnamon buns. Later during the day it started to rain so after a good vegan lunch at Hermans in Södermalm we visited the photo museum called Fotografiska. It was my lucky day, because there was an exhibition of Patrick Demarchelier, an amazing fashion photographer who worked for Dior many times.

        Day two

The next day we walked to Östermalm. It was cold, so when we saw a shopping mall called Sture Gallerian, we went in to buy a present for our dad at home and we where impressed by the beauty of the cafe and restaurant inside the gallery. Later we walked in the expensive shopping streets of Östermalm to do some window shopping. Unfortunately the Östermalm Saluhall (the famous food hall) was under construction so we stopped at Joe & The Juice for a healthy break and then it was time to discover a new part of Stockholm called Kungliga Djurgården. It was so cold, so we decided to get warm while visiting a museum. Vasa museum was a must-see according to our Stockholm Travel Guide. The museum has a great restaurant where we had lunch, but we forget this museum is always cold because of the old and fragile ship. It was absolutely worth the visit! I’m an cinnamon addict, so my goal was to eat a typical Swedish cinnamon bun everyday, so I did :)
